Kathmandu, 20 July – A significant breakthrough has been made in gold smuggling as authorities at Tribhuvan International Airport successfully recovered nearly 100 kg of gold after a meticulous operation. The Director General, Navraj Dhungana, reported that the operation took place in Sinamangal, based on special information received from the Revenue Investigation Department on Wednesday.
This recent seizure marks the largest amount of gold ever recovered in Nepal. According to sources at Tribhuvan International Airport, the gold was smuggled into Kathmandu via a Cathay Pacific flight on Tuesday.
The Revenue Investigation Department was tipped off that the gold was concealed within the brakes of motorcycles and scooters. Surprisingly, the gold managed to pass customs inspection and reached Sinamangal, leaving both the customs department and the airport customs office unaware of the illicit cargo.
The successful recovery of this substantial amount of gold represents a significant victory for authorities in their ongoing efforts to combat illegal activities. Further investigations are underway to identify the individuals involved in the smuggling attempt.
