Chet Bahadur Gurung, a senior pilot from Rupa Rural Municipality in Kaski, tragically lost his life in a helicopter accident. The incident occurred on Tuesday when a Manang Air helicopter, en route from Solukhumbu to Kathmandu, crashed.
Chet Bahadur Gurung, who resided in Moharia, Rupa Rural Municipality-6, and was living temporarily in Lalitpur Bhaisepati, was among the victims of the Manang helicopter accident. The unfortunate incident took place in Lamjura of Solukhumbu’s Likhupike Rural Municipality-5.
All six individuals on board the helicopter lost their lives. Additionally, the Mexican nationals Fernando Sifugnates, Rincon Ismail, Aberica Gonzalez, Olasio Gonzalez, and Maria Jose Sifuntes, who were accompanying Chet Bahadur Gurung, also perished in the accident.
Chet Bahadur Gurung had a distinguished career as a pilot. He had flown five Mexican nationals from Tribhuvan International Airport in Kathmandu to Lukla at 11 am on Monday, as part of a Mexican ‘mountain flight’ experience.
They had stayed overnight in Lukla. Following the completion of the mountain flight on Tuesday, Chet Bahadur Gurung was scheduled to return to Kathmandu. He had gone to Lukla to pick up the passengers, but unfortunately, the helicopter lost contact at 10:30 am during the journey back to Kathmandu.
Prior to his tenure with Manang Air, Chet Bahadur Gurung had gained experience flying helicopters in Russia and Afghanistan. His family members currently reside in the UK.
It is important to note that Pilot Kamal KC, a resident of Kaski Rupa Rural Municipality-3, tragically lost his life in an accident involving Yeti Airlines in Pokhara on January 1.
