Three-time Aha Rara Pokhara Gold Cup champion, Three Star, has advanced to the semifinals. In the first quarter-final held at Pokhara Stadium on Saturday, the visiting team triumphed over Bhutan’s Paro Club with a 2-0 victory, securing their place in the next round.
The match extended into extra time following a goalless draw in the scheduled 90 minutes. In a thrilling turn of events during the last 6 minutes of extra time, Ashish Chapagai netted two goals, solidifying Three Star’s journey to the semifinals.
Ashish opened the scoring in the 114th minute with a remarkable shot from the penalty box, leaving Paro’s goalkeeper Jangpo with no chance to block the ball. In the 119th minute, Ashish Chapagai added another goal, doubling Three Star’s lead and earning himself the title of the man of the match.
Three Star is now set to face the winner of the third quarter-final clash between Manang Marsyangdi and Jawalakhel. On Sunday, the tournament will showcase a competitive match between former champions Sankata Football Club and the departmental team Tribhuvan Army Club.
The tournament, featuring the participation of 12 teams, is scheduled to continue until January 20. The champion of the competition will be awarded Rs 12 lakh, while the runner-up will receive Rs 6 lakh.
