Pokhara, July 24 A devastating plane crash involving Sourya Airlines has resulted in the loss of 18 lives, according to the Nepal Civil Aviation Authority. The incident occurred during a technical test flight from Kathmandu to Pokhara early Wednesday morning.

Captain Manish Shakya, 37, the sole survivor, is currently receiving medical treatment at KMC Hospital in Sinamangal.

The aircraft, identified as Sourya Air’s CRJ 7009 N-AME, was en route to Pokhara for a ‘C-Check’ inspection following repairs. Tragically, just 20 seconds after takeoff from Tribhuvan Airport at 11:11 AM, the plane experienced severe shaking before sharply veering to the right and crashing.

The deceased include co-pilot S. Katuwal and crew members Amitman Maharjan, Sagar Acharya, Dilip Verma, Manuraj Sharma, Aswin Niroula, Sudipraj Joshi, Sarves Marasini, Shyam Vindukar, Navraj Ale, Rajaram Acharya, Preeja Khatiwada, Adhiraj Sharma, Uddhav Puri, Yagya Prasad Paudel, Santosh Mahato, Punyaratna Shahi, and foreigner Arif Reda.

Authorities are investigating the cause of the crash, as Sourya Airlines and the aviation community mourn this tragic loss.
