Preparations for the operation of casinos in three hotels, including Mount Kailash Resort, located on the lakeside of Pokhara, are underway. A mini casino is set to be operated in a four-star resort. Previously, casinos were in operation at Phulbari Resort and Hotel Pokhara Grand, but they have been closed for a few years.
Taj Entertainment Pvt Ltd has registered with the Industries Department to operate a casino at Mount Kailash Resort. The Tourism Department will conduct a study and provide recommendations to the Ministry of Tourism regarding the operation of the casino. The casino will commence its operations upon receiving permission from the Ministry of Tourism. To facilitate its opening in July, the company has made arrangements to submit a revenue amount of 2.5 million rupees to the government.
With an investment of 21 million rupees, the company has successfully registered with the Industries Department after receiving recommendations from the Tourism Department to operate a casino at Mount Kailash Resort. The company must obtain permission from the resort to operate the casino, which has already been registered in the industry.
It is estimated that over 100 people will be employed in the casino once it is operational. The construction of the casino hall has been completed. Mount Kailash Resort, established in 2009, boasts 51 rooms.
It is important to note that only foreign nationals are allowed to participate in casino gambling in Nepal. With a focus on Indian and Chinese tourists, three casinos are being established in Pokhara. The casino companies are required to enter into agreements with the respective four-star hotels to operate mini casinos.
Ventnum International Pvt Ltd and Pleasure Nepal Pvt Ltd have registered with the Department of Industry to operate casinos in Pokhara. Ventnum Casino will operate at the Heritage Hotel and Spa in Pokhara’s lakeside, while Pleasure Nepal Pvt Ltd has been registered to operate a casino at Hotel Sarovar Pvt Ltd.
