Signature Campaign Demanding Separation of Lekhnath from Pokhara Metropolitan Municipality Gains Momentum

Ai edit

Pokhara, July 6th – The residents of Lekhnath have initiated a signature campaign advocating for the separation of the former Lekhnath Municipality from the Pokhara Metropolitan Municipality. Renowned actor Sandeep Poudel has taken the lead in this campaign, striving to restore the autonomy of Lekhnath Municipality by detaching it from the Pokhara Metropolitan Municipality.

One of the primary concerns voiced by Poudel and the residents of Lekhnath is the adverse impact of the merger with Pokhara Metropolis. The amalgamation resulted in a reduction in budget allocation and programs, which were previously determined based on the available resources, population, and geographical aspects. Past grievances of Lekhnath residents have been frequently expressed in various forums, prompting the launch of this signature campaign.

The objective of the campaign is to gather 100,000 signatures, which will subsequently be submitted to the Prime Minister as part of the Lekhnath Municipality Rehabilitation Campaign. Encouragingly, on the first day alone, approximately 3,000 signatures were collected. Poudel announced that the campaign will continue to collect signatures every Saturday at various locations in Lekhnath.

Notably, the Pokhara Metropolitan Municipality, comprising 18 wards, underwent a merger that included Lekhnath Municipality, Bhadaure Gavis, and Chapakot Gavis, resulting in the formation of the current Pokhara Metropolis.
